Careers

Career pathways are developed for every colleague to prepare them for future roles and progression.

We are a great place to work and have a career.

Our vision is that we want to be the veterinary company people most want to work for.

We want to attract and retain the very best people to enable us to achieve our purpose of delivering the best possible care to animals.

We foster a collaborative and mutually supportive working environment. We also assist all of our colleagues in achieving their career aspirations, with progressive learning and development opportunities.

Career opportunities

There is significant opportunity for career progression within CVS and a vast range of career opportunities.

We have a diverse range of 480 first opinion practices, 9 referrals hospitals, Advanced Clinical Service Network, and VetOracle referrals services. They have a wide variety of roles including general practitioners, advanced practitioners, specialists, pathologists. This breadth of our business sets us apart from other corporate groups.

Many colleagues develop their career across our company – for example in more specialist roles, or in management. We have a track record of promoting from within - and encourage secondment and permanent opportunities across our network of clinics both nationally and internationally.

Career development

We invest time and money in colleague’s careers.

Regular check-ins are held with all colleagues to discuss career aspirations, progression, and to help set career pathways.

We support our vets and nurses with diverse career development, helping them to change career direction and move laterally and vertically within the business. Career pathways are developed for every colleague to prepare them for future roles and progression.

For our vets:

  • There is the ability to move from general practitioner (first opinion), to advanced practitioner (Advanced Clinical Network), to internship or specialist (Referrals hospital, Vet Oracle).
  • There is the ability to move into management roles.

For our nurses:

  • We promote the development of skills and enable them to work to their maximum legal capacity, to give them the ability to progress. We have prioritised the most important areas for improving nursing team utilisation - both in the consulting room and with schedule 3 delegated surgical procedures.
  • There is also the ability to move into management roles.

We have also launched a new Equity Diversity and Inclusion working group in 2022 to help and attract and support colleagues from all backgrounds to enter the profession.
